Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told Ed Woodward to ‘speed up’ in Manchester United’s pursuit of Bruno Fernandes.
United first registered their interest in Sporting Lisbon midfielder Fernandes at the start of the year, with Solskjaer eager to add creativity and a goalscoring threat to his midfield.
Fernandes scored 32 goals and assisted a further 18 in 53 games this past season, and has been identified as an ideal signing.
But executive vice-chairman Woodward is apparently ‘hesitant’ to match the Portugal international’s £71m release clause, much to Solskjaer’s chagrin.
Portuguese paper Record claim the manager has told Woodward to ‘speed up’ with regards to making new signings, as he wants the majority of his squad in place before pre-season begins on July 1.
Fernandes is central to the Norwegian’s plans, but the player’s agent, Miguel Pinho, returned from England last week with news that Sporting’s €70m (£62.6m) demands were proving too much for both United and Tottenham.
Record add information about an interesting clause in Fernandes’ contract – and thanks to Sport Witness for the translation – that states the player is due €5m (£4.5m) if Sporting reject an offer of €35m (£31.3m) or more.
Something tells us Woodward cannot be trusted to use that to his advantage.
