Graeme Souness has described Barcelona’s players as “dopes” after they fell asleep for Liverpool’s crucial fourth goal in their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night.
Few expected to see the Reds make it to next month’s Madrid finale after a 3-0 first-leg defeat at the Nou Camp, but the five-time European champions will face Ajax or Tottenham after digging deep in stunning fashion.
Liverpool went ahead after just seven minutes through Divock Origi and kicked on in the second half, when substitute Georginio Wijnaldum’s quickfire brace was followed by Origi notching from a quick corner to seal a 4-0 win and progress 4-3 on aggregate.
Trent Alexander-Arnold spotted Origi unmarked in the six-yard box his quick thinking picked out the Belgium international to sweep home with 11 minutes to go.
In Souness‘ analysis on Virgin Media, he said:”He realises a few dopes, the great Ronnie Moran, he used to say to us, ‘find the dope.’ What he meant is at a corner kick or a throw-in or when the ball goes dead, someone would go to sleep, he would say ‘find the dope,’ and there is a team of dopes…
“That is criminal for a professional footballer, they’ve all turned their back on it…”
The ball-boy didn’t…
“Watch the ball-boy here, he puts it on the spot, watch how quickly, two season tickets for this little fella, two fabulous tickets for the final for that little fella!”
“Watch this!
“Look at the ballboy. He’s on the spot!
“He realises a few dopes!”
“Ronnie Moran always said ‘find the dope!'””
